2.9 QUESTION STX vs. XLT what are the differences?

i have heard this is how it goes with full size fords but not sure if it applys to rangers.

1-XL (base model)
2-STX (mostly exterior upgrades, 5.4L not avail.)
3-XLT (middle of the pack, most popular package with the most options avail.)
4-FX4
and so on.......

I asked the same question and this is the response I got:

An STX package could include many things, grilleguard, bumpers, light bar and decal package etc. If the STX came with the High rider option it got a leveling package from the factory.

It depends a lot on the model year as to the differences STX and XLT. In 89 the 4WD STX had and improved suspension that included the factory lift (1.5"-2"). Something was different about the sway bars and STX had gas pressurized shocks. The seats were unique to STX and it had blacked out exterior trim also. I don't remember if the wheels were unique to STX but they were alloy wheels and were different than the norm. Of course, the STX had the side stripes also which were unique to the STX model. I believe a LSD on the rear axle was standard on the STX.

The 2WD STX had a rear tube bumper and a non-functional roll bar. I am not sure about any other unique features in the 2WD STX but I think they had most of the features that the 4WD STX had with the exception of the factory lift.

I think many of the features on the STX could be optioned on the XLT.
