i got a 1987 ranger w/ the 2.9l and a 5spd. pulled the engine to replace some gaskets, new cap, rotor and spark plugs and wires and a new high pressure fuel pump. my problem is that when i got it back on the road it will idle fine and drive down the road fine for about the first few miles and then it will lose power and act like its missing. i can push the clutch in and rev it up and it'll run great for a little bit and go back to the miss and stumble. i am mechanically inclined but i dont know enough about fuel injection and all the sensors. anybody have any idea that i can try?

The check engine light didn't come on 87's 88 was the first year... As for pulling codes, the procedure is in the tech library.
