i have 2.9 v6 87 ranger and put a new upper and lower intake gasket on it, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and now the only place i can tell its coming from is i believe from the oil dipstick tube where it meets the block..any ideas on how to stop this...oil is getting on the steering shaft at the joint and also drips down a little on to the starter

Usually you can remove the 1 bolt holding the tube, on the exhaust manifold, and then pull it out of the block, have to wiggle it a bit if it's never been out before, it can be stuck in there pretty tight, but it does come out.

Check it for holes, you will see a ridge on the lower tube that is the "stop" where it hits the hole in the block, so tube is always at the same place, making oil level on the stick valid.
Put some high temp sealant on the tube just below the ridge and reinstall tube.

Only oil vapor should exit the dipstick tube, it is well above the oil level in the pan.
To lessen oil vapor check PCV Valve and "Vent" tube(oil filler neck to air intake), these need to be clean and working to reduce oil vapor blow-by out of dipstick and valve covers

ok thanks for the info .. i put a new pcv valve in it and will seal the tube up..i took the tube out when i did the intake work but didn't seal it with anything..i will give it a shot..also i buddy at work mentioned something about getting an oil cap for the filler neck that is a breather

There is supposed to be an o-ring on the dipstick tube too.
