2.9 High Idle

Hey everyone, so I'm back with another question. A few weeks ago I posted asking about my '86 Ranger XL 2.9 4x4 dying when warm. People recommended replacing the TFI, which I finally got around to doing tonight. Along with the TFI though, I replace the IAC and the PCV and Breather Element on the motor just cause (PCV and Breather were both gunky). I replaced the IAC, PCV and Breather about 1.5 weeks ago, started the truck, and it sounded good and idled higher and smoother, but I only had it running for a couple minutes, not long enough for it to get warm. Tonight I replaced the TFI, started it and it idled high but smooth, but the idle didn't really drop when it started getting to operating temp. Should I look for possible vacuum leaks around the IAC, PCV, Breather? Or could the TFI be causing it? Thanks.
 
TFI shouldnt cause a high idle. But a vacuum leak defiantly would. Id start there, you didnt move the distributor when changing the TFI did you?

No, I replaced it with the distributor still in the engine. Took maybe 20 minutes, just slid right out after taking out the screws. Then just put the new one in and hooked it up.
 
If you unplug the IAC with the engine running do the RPMs drop way down?

I didn't think to try that. I'll have to tomorrow. Should I let the engine warm up first, or do it on a cold start?
 
Cold engine. When cold the computer should command the IAC valve to open up more (allowing more air) to increase idle RPMs. If you unplug it and the engine maintains a high idle it means the engine is getting air from somewhere else (vacuum leak). Also visually inspect that the IAC valve is opening and closing, remove it and keep it plugged it. With key off it should be closed. Turn the key to run position and it should open. If its stuck open with the key off then there's your problem.
