My 86 Ford Ranger suddenly has no power. When I drive it, it bogs down, then suddenly surges and speeds up for a moment before bogging down again. What's wrong? ive replaced the fuel filter tps fuel regulator map sensor distributor assembly new plug and wire and freshly rebuilt tranny have exelent fuel pressure and no vaccums leaks and new coil plugs and wires

Unplug the oxygen sensor and see if it improves.

How old is the exhaust system?

Clogged exhaust produces those symptoms
Have someone rev the engine while you feel the exhaust stream.
Best way to test is with a vacuum meter.

Ya, it sounds like you might have a clogged up cat(s). I've seen a couple of clogged cats on Rangers, sometimes they get so hot that you can see the clogged cat glowing red.
