I just bought my 1990 ranger about 2 weeks ago and i was playing on a trail with some friends when i decided to hit a big mud hole :thefinger: .. It sucked in water through the intake thanks to a busted intake hose :bawling: .. Anyways, we never took the plugs out or drained the fluid but we got it started and i ended up driving it out of the trail and about 30 minutes on the way home.. It acted like a sick dog the whole ride. While we were coming down the highway and it gave out.. it cut off and wouldnt even run when i tried to pop the clutch going 40mph.. i parked it and the coolant overflow was boiling and steaming. the oil smells like burnt popcorn but it isnt milky.. We tried to start it, it broke the starter gears. We tried hand cranking it, nothing.. is it hydrolocked and completely done for? or is there any way possible to help it?? I plan on taking the plugs out tomorrow and trying to hand crank it.. should this help? :icon_confused:

The truck has been sitting for 8 days since it locked up.. ive been looking for a new/used motor but if theres a chance i can revive the old one i will.. Please help.

Also, whats a good price for a used 2.9 engine? i dont want to over-pay..

Let us know what happens......then we'll talk instead of guessing :icon_thumby:

Drain the oil. Take out the spark plugs and put some marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let sit for a day or so. Get out a breaker bar and try turning it by hand. Once free do about 10 complete turns and put plugs and new oil and filter in and give it a try. If that doesn't work pull the heads. Need more info pm me.

thanks NEVERDONE86. Im gonna try that. its raining hard today so ill keep yall informed how it goes as soon as the rain lets up some.

Where are you located? There may be guys near you who are willing and able to help.

I drained the oil, sprayed wd40 in the cylinders, let it sit a week and i worked with it and managed to get it to turn over by hand.. i bought a new starter, put used oil in it from an oil change in a different car for now(so i didnt waste 20 bucks on new oil only to get water in it). well it cranked over without the plugs in it and gas was misting out the spark plug holes so i cleaned the plugs with a wire brush and put them back in. the truck fired right up.. ran a little rough at first but it smoothed out. i guess it was where it was sitting for a while?
anyways, i went to wallyworld and bought a new motorcraft oil filter, new oil, lucas oil stabilizer.. changed the oil and the used oil looked a little milky from water still in oil filter i guess(it was dirty but not milky when i put it in..it could have been wd40 i put in the engine to unlock it? )
I added the stabilizer in with 4 quarts of new oil and filter and it started up and ran real nice.
I plan on changing the oil in about 2-3 weeks to make sure all the water is removed from the engine, any other tips or pointers??
