2.9 engine miss?

would be easier to switch the switch I guess. Didn't look that easy to get it out/off.

What does the color have to do with anything? None of the shaft is visible once installed. (at least that is what she said.)

just kidding on my 83 it was real easy to change the wiper switch I went to the bone yard and pulled the wiperdelay governor and switch out and put it into my truck it came stock without it plugged right in now I dont know how I drove around here without delay wipers.

Changed the fuel pump (new) on Thursday and drove it 1000 miles on Friday. STILL had that under load miss at 2600 rpms. Consistently. But WAS running better.

Changed the new spark plugs today and put in Autolite double platinums. Gapped to .044. Took it for a drive and COULD NOT GET IT TO MISS!! Plus, it's running really well and idle is smoother.

The Jury is still out. Will update if the miss returns.

And fuel mileage prior to today has been around 16 in town and a maximum of 22.5 on the freeway. Will update that as well as I fill it.

The miss did come back not long after the last post. I was just lazy and didn't update. I asked about the miss in a different post and was told to check the ignition switch. I replaced it and so far, so good.

holy crap
read through this (miss starting in April?) I dunno wat I wouldve done! Love my 2.9L, but after all that I wouldve swapped it out with a 5L.. or something, dunno? I am curious if the Ig Switch caused all this...keep us posted!

I think the ignition switch was the cause of the miss. Everything else was incidental. At least it is running good!

SOOOOOOO....if any of you guys following this can't figure out your miss issues and everything else is checking out ok, go spend $9.99 at Autozone and 15 minutes of time and replace the ignition switch.

So you read the codes on it or did you bring it in to figure out it was the ig sw? how did you come to that conclusion, I don't think I would've been able to pull that fix outta a hat? Just luck?

It wasn't blowing any codes. The previous, what, 26 pages (?) kinda shows my process, but ultimately I just asked the right question.

The miss is still there, albeit MUCH, MUCH less than before. It has only happened a couple of times on both trucks. Maybe just cheap ignition switches?? Changing the switches reduced the missing enough that I am pretty confident that's what the problem is.

Unless of course someone else has some insight to enlighten me with.

Could you come up with a list of all the things you replaced so far? It would be easier to work with that than scrolling between 3 pages...
1) oem plugs & wires
2) such n such sensor
3) fuel pressure regulator
4) etc...

Uhhhhh....how about I list what I HAVE NOT replaced on this truck.

That would include the frame, body, front/rear differentials, in-tank fuel pump, fuel injectors and relays/fusible links. Pretty much everything else has been replaced with either new or a good used component.

There are at least four different trucks in it so far. And still counting.
