I recently purchased a 1991 Ranger 2.9/4x4 5 speed. I'm just going over things and noticed what I thought was a leak at the t-stat housing. Well it wasn't that. It isn't a big leak but where it appears the intake and block at the top of the timing cover is an ever so slight pulse of coolant is coming out. You need to stare at it and watch the light reflection change to even notice anything. Is there a typical issue in this area? It appears the drop evaporates before it hits the ground? I'd like to fix it before it becomes an untimely issue.

Thanks,

Without seeing it? I'd have to venture a guess the intake manifold gasket would need replacement. There's a few ports built into it that feed into the cylinder heads for cooling. Sounds like the gasket has failed just a whisker and is allowing coolant to seep out. It's just a guess...

Teddybear is correct. When you have the leak you described it is time for a new intake gasket. Not too bad of a job for the DIYer. Let us know if you need help.

Have a look at your heater hose connection, loose clamp?
I had one I couldn't find until the right light, frame of mind
whatever allowed me to see it.
