I have an 88 ranger with a 2.9 in it. My 2.9 Cologne v6 was sold in Califonia orginally and has all this smog and emissions nonsense on it. The amount of extra tubes is rediculous. I live in Georgia, so I was wondering can any of it go? Or is all of it required for it to run properly? It just for the sake making it easier to work on mostly. Thanks.

I think that you can but I think you gonna need a non-California '88 ECU.

Go for a 90 and lose the EGR too.

The EGR fitting into the exhaust manifold can be blocked off with a 10mm bolt and some copper washers. Remove the pipe and you'll see the fitting and how it narrows. Need a block off plate for the intake manifold too.

I think that the 2.9 lost the EGR in '88, not '90. I said '88 to be safe because I think that there was some wiring harness changes in '89, not sure if they were body harness changes only or they affected the engine wiring harness too.

The '88 does not have an egr nor the crossover tubes for the manifolds which makes it alot easier and cheaper if you want headers!
