If you had a bare 2.9 engine block, how would you rebuild it. Yes I know with a rebuild kit, lol. But what would you leave alone and what would you bump up on it. Bore size, Cam, Injectors, is port and polish worth it. Or when your done is it still a 2.9.

A good aggressive cam, some slightly larger injectors, and a port and polish. I have an aggressive cam in my rebuilt 2.9 with 3.45 gears. As is she will out do my 3.73 gears B2. 4th gear pulls are tons of fun because the power just keeps coming.

Don't bother messing with the swept volume beyond cleaning the cylinder walls up. No more than .030 over.

so it is worth it, I just replaced the 2.9 in my 87 BII. So I have the original to play with. It had 279.000 on it when I pulled it out, second set of heads, which are shot again.

I don't know the exact specs of my cam because I bought the engine with about 3,000 miles on it since the rebuild, but I know it has new NP heads and a custom cut cam. Can't remember which injectors it has, but I think they are out of a V-8, and the rest was rebuilt from NOS motorcraft parts.

Thanks for the answers. Most people tell me to attach it to the chain on the boat. But I think not.
