hi
it seams no one i know in the uk can answer me this question, i want to know if the 2.9 heads will fit on a 4.0 block

ive read quite a few thread on here where people are suggesting just changing engine, this is for a banger racing engine so needs to look like a 2.9 exterior but interior can be what ever we want (thats within the rules)

i know if it does fit id have compression ratio problems but thats another problem

hope someone can answer this

thanks

The 4.0l is a bored and stroked 2.9l so the heads will swap bolt pattern-wise, problem will be alignment of the cooling passages from block to head.
I would get a set of 4.0l head gaskets and a set of 2.9l head gaskets then see if there is a way modify the 2.9l heads to line up with the 4.0l block passages.

The exhaust manifold will be the same but I think you will need to modify the intake as far as lining up, could be cooling passage issue here as well.

Good read here on the 2.9l and upgrading 2.9l performance:

thanks for the reply
im having a manifold made for this as we run these engines on carbs(38dgas), either using a megajolt system or i will have to get a distributer extended as the 2.9 one is 1/2in to short

any other comments or tip etc more than welcome
