I have a A4LD transmission in my bronco II and im wondering if that would be ok with a 93 4.0L?
thanks,
morgan

It'll bolt up but, you'll be unbolting it in about a weeks worth of driving. It wont last man.

I reccomend getting a M5OD and swapping it in. Only good tranny in those years RBV's

even though the early explorers came with an A4LD?

uuummmm.......... yeah and I would use the explorer transmission over any of the others (it seems stronger even though in theory they are the same) but an A4LD is an A4LD............. which is a french built POS.

then how come its not a good idea to use the A4LD in my bronco II?

BDAB laid it out in rather simple words...

Not saying you can't do it, just saying it wont last very long

The biggest reason I can think of is because the transmission you have is from a 2.9L

The A4LD's can be built to handle quite a bit of abuse, epically if you install the TransGo shift kit.

PM AllanD about it. He has some good links for upgrading the A4LD.

what year 4.0 are you gonna use? im gonna be starting one with a 98 explorer...

why are you using the 98.... if you use the 98 you half to get everything from the donor from the harness to the dash to the gauges to the computer....... if you get the computer make sure you use the same hardware kit (example: if the computer is a 6AL then you need the 6AL hardware and wiring because the sensors and the pins could be different from a 4ZGE...... these are just made up numbers but you get the idea)

if you do find a way to do that SOHC without going to OBD2 then do a complete right up on it because there are several trying to figure it out ...... personally I would use a push rod V6 from 91 - 94 explorer or 90 - 94 Ranger .......... much easier swap......

and the SOHC engines have issues ........ serious issues .......

Agreed. The '98 is basically the worst possible option for the '84. Much better with an early OHV 4.0 or even a carbureted 302 (can't believe I just said that).

im using a 93, but im concerned about if i should buy the M5OD with it instead of using the stock A4LD, but im not sure how hard it is to convert to manual.

If you can get all the parts to go with it, it shouldn't give you that much trouble. I'd do it.

Can all the parts from a 93 explorer i need be used in an 86 bronco II?

im not sure how hard it is to convert to manual.
It is freakin easy. If you can do the 2.9 to 4.0 swap, then you can do an auto to manual swap.
