Is the 2.8l a good or bad engine to keep I need help whether to keep it in my 83 ranger or not I’ve heard bad things about it but just not sure

If it is in good shape and runs good I wouldn't mess with it.

If it it starts needing emissions stuff and you can't find parts and you don't have to deal with emissions inspections a duraspark conversion and carb swap will keep it going.

IMO the computer controlled carb is the biggest problem for them.

Any recommendations on what carb swap to put

I would go Motorcraft 1250 with 1.08 venturis.

Basically the same carb as what is on it aside from the computer stuff. Found on stuff right before feedback/TBI/EFI came out, like late 70's/early 80's.

I'm running a two barrel Holley marine carb, I can tell you the numeric designation once I'm off work.

I bought a 2150 off Amazon for 85.00 brand new. works great.
