i want to keep my 2.8 but i want a little more power. i cant find headers for it though i know they existed, intakes are hard to find, cams, ect. where did all the performance parts go ?

any leads ?

302 Swap. Other than that the 2.8L is what it is, a great engine that is often laughed at on this site because everyone seems to think you should have a 302. The 302 is great if you want to go really fast and have a never ending money supply for gas and all of the repairs that go along with putting the wrong engine into a vehicle.

:icon_confused:

5.3 swap.:icon_thumby: well if you want good economy and power.

but 4.0 is way easier...and they actually have performance parts.

Skip all that crap, OP wants more power, so swap in a 460 that'll do it LOL. I bet that would take some major work to do though LOL.

fawk that....i want 20 mpg or as close as i can get....late all aluminum 5.3 would make a stock 460 look stupid.

comparatively, a 5.3 is a bolt in, and no weight penalty.

Never heard of a 5.3L, must be a chevy motor?

yes it is..

most cost effective efficient way to go.

The 2.8 was never a powerhouse to begin with. To get much performance out of one would take some milling and weight reduction. I opted for the 302 (I now have 347 in mine) swap. Yes I pay for the fuel, yes I have been messing with this for around 12 yrs, but Im pushing a lot of HP (no its not built for speed), and I can roast locked up BOGGERs (35's).

Your best bet is the 4.0. Wrecked Explorers and Rangers are out there, that you can buy the whole vehicle, take what you need and be set. Not the answer your looking for, but might send you in a direction.

i was thinking the same thing when i found this site. after reading the tech section many times, i decided the 4.0L swap is the way to go. im in the process of doing this now, along with the M5OD trans and explorer diffs. its the best bang for the buck, way cheaper than a v-8 swap and less likely to break things. also ive heard that the fuel mileage actually picks up. do plenty of research before spending your money, and pick the swap that best suits your needs
