My son's first truck is an 84 Ranger 4x4 with a 2.8. We have access to a 4.0 that we're looking at swapping out. We are going to remove ALL smog equipment (It's not required where we live) a we're planning on using a carb on the 4.0 and going completely computerless. Has anyone done this? and what problems did you run into that we should resolve before jumping in. All comments are very much appreciated.

4.0s don't have distributors so that's going to be your biggest obstacle.

The wiring isn't that hard if you have the diagrams.

If you really want a carb, get a 302.

4.0 swap

Did they ever make A carb intake manifold for A 4.0 because I believe its different than A 2.8 I think it runs better and more economical injected anyway.Injection isn't just better with smog it's just better.Motors last longer too because mixture dosn't have rich points that flush away oil film.

Going 4.0 with a carb and a distributor will be a biiig hassle. Now I think someone on here has posted once about going carb'd with a DIS system from someone like MSD.
