I have a question on the 2.8 conversion does anyone know what the volts should be for the wires coming off the mod should be ie the red abd white because my coil is still getting hot and the original wiring is hammered so im trying to get it wired up i got it running good but i bont think its wired right or the coil wouldnt be getting hot

You can always add a ballast resistor to the "+" side of the coil.

Existing wire-------ballast resistor----------coil "+"

The primary coil "+" to "-", should have less than 1 OHM resistance, 0 ohms is a dead short and they get VERY HOT, lol, so coil will get hot, that is expected, but not really HOT or it will fail.

The ballast resistor reduces the voltage at the coil to 7-9 volts instead of 12-14volts.
Pretty much all 12 volt engines used these ballast resistors or "resistor wire" prior to electronic ignitions to help coils last longer.

Yes spark voltage goes down, but not by enough to cause a problem on most engines.

Cold day/Cold starts can be an issue but you can run a second wire from starter solenoid to coil "+" with a diode in line, this will give the coil 12 volts only when you are cranking the engine, then back to 7-9 volts when starter motor is off.
So best of both.
As said this was the way all ignition system were wire for 50 years, so don't be afraid of turning back the clock to a method that works :)
