I just bought a 85 Bronco ii and the previous owner overheated it to the point of shut off. The engine still ran and had a slight tick but also has a blown head gasket.

Now I know that no one can guarantee anything but how bad are the 2.8 for cracking. I'm going to check for warpage with a feeler gauge and a piece of glass? 0.30 thousandths should be max tolerance correct?

Are these heads popular for cracking in certain areas?

Is there a product that I can use at the house for checking for cracks.

I'm doing this on a budget, sorry for all the questions.

Thank you

Richard

Last weekend on TV (Trucks on Powerblock) they showed a product that you spray on the heads, wipe off, then spray another spray on it and it shows if you have a crack in it or not. I would go to powerblocktv.com to see if I could find it (or google). They said the spray was a decent price and something anybody can do. But for the likes of dme I cant remember the name of it. And ya they also said 0.30 thousandths is the max tolerance. I wouldnt use a peice of glass, I would use a metal straigt edge myself. Hope this helps you out!!!

I removed the heads last night the cracks are everywhere and real easy to see between the valves. I guess time to look for a engine or heads.

Thanks
