bought my son a 98 ranger 2wd 2.5L with a blown motor.

the only engine that midway auto parts {used engine} has is out of a 98 mazda B-series truck. They say it will work with no problem and im thinking they are right as they are the same truck but i just want to make sure.

thanks for your help !

Yes, that will work fine.
I would keep your current exhaust and intake manifold setup, so sensor and control wiring connections and lengths will be the same.

And change the rear main seal for sure, oil pump and pan gasket are a good idea but not required.

If it is an automatic and it is your first, then make sure the torque converter it completely seated into the front pump before trying to bolt trans to the engine, if you get this wrong you will also need a new transmission.

If manual trans replace the clutch slave

As long as its a B2500 its the same exact motor. If it were a B2300 it would have a 2.3 , even then it would drop in and work.

If an autmatic, take a look at the front pump seal, where the converter hub is installed. If seeping, get a new one. If a manual transmission, take a look at the pilot bearing in the center of the crankshaft. It may need a dab of grease if it is dry. If scored, replace it.
