Alright I am Fed up. I got a 2.5L Ranger that Cranks and Cranks but wont start until it wants to.. Randomly after couple hours of messing with it and giving up it will start perfectly with no cranking... Then the next day it wont start again. It started out as a fuel pump and we replaced it. Replaced the coil thinking it might be that then found out the front coil doesnt fire during cranking..

This is where I am... I have spark. I have fuel Pressure in the fuel rail. Dont think it is timing because when it randomly does work it runs like a dream and has alot of power and doesnt die or sputter.. If I spray starting fluid it starts and then dies when it runs out of starting fluid so like a half second..

Any Ideas?

next time you would get more exposure if you posted in the other four banger forum........I think this is mostly for the 2.3 duratecs that came out half way through 2001.............that being said it sounds like when you have the issue you are NOT getting fuel pressure. You might start by replacing or swapping the $5 fuel pump relay. if that does not do it start testing to see if you have power at the pump, the inertia switch etc.......

I reread your post. you might just try what i suggested, it is cheap and easy but I would think that if it was the issue i mentioned that it might happen randomly as you were driving. the relay is always turning the pump on and off........
