2.5 swap to 4.0

Hello I got a 1998 Ranger 2.5 and a complete 2000 Ranger 4.0 wrecked but the motor and tranny are good. Just wondering how exactly to swap the 4.0 with the different computer into the 1998. Don't know if I need a new wiring harness or what I need. thanks

I am doing this exact switch but with an 04 Ranger 4.0 I have all the wiring and components for both engines. Did you ever get any answers or finish the swap?

you'll need to swap the wiring harness that's attached to the computer and goes to all the sensors and actuators on the motor back to the big square plug attached to the intake, the computer, the engine mounting plates (bolted to the block) if you're going from a 4x4 to a 4x2 as the plates are different (you can buy them from ford as they can be hard to find), and you'll need to change one engine mount (driver side if memory serves), your alternator wiring and starter wiring off of the 4.0 should be used as well. Helped 982WDRanger do this swap a couple of months ago and that's what we had to do to get it up and going.

I did this swap in September of 2011, HolyFord86 helped me out. He is correct on what you need, wiring, computer, mounts etc. And it is the driver side motor mount that needs to be switched and you will need the correct engine side mounts as well. I needed 98 2wd 4.0 engine block mounts which are $$ but nice mounts. Good Luck.
