Iam looking to buy my daughter a Ranger 2000 or newer. How many years did Ford make the 2.5 L motor for ? And what problems did Ford have with this motor?

the 2.5 is the old 2.3 with more displacement, it has all the faults and positives that the 2.3 did, so generally look at them as being the same motor.

i think either 2000 or 2001 is the latest they ever used the 2.5, started it in either 98 or 99.

2.5 was used from 1998 till mid-year 2001. It is simply a stroked-out 2.3, the same ones used in the 1997 and older Rangers. This engine didn't really have any problems. They have a fantastic reputation for being tough, long-lasting engines.

It was alright. I'd go for a 2.3 myself.
