I was trying to set up my clutch, starter interlock switch so that i didnt have to push the pedal to start my ranger. due to recent slave cylinder problems this was necessary. but now the truck starts sputters and dies. i have replaced the interlock switch with a new one from ford. and i have tried to read the codes, but i am getting nothing. and help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Is the fuel pump running?

Should hear it for 2 seconds when you turn the key to Run without cranking.

If not, reset inertia switch, replace fuel pump relay, replace fuse, replace fuel pump, etc.

pump works, if you crank engine and hold gas pedal down it will start. but it bearly runs and shuts off if i try to let it idle.

Gosh this sounds JUST like my truck, Cricket would do at the start of it's no-start days back in October 2007.

PCV valve, plugs, wires, fuel pump (even though it was reading it was getting fuel initially) and filter, coil packs, and testing of ignition module later, it is now finally back running, but now, a new problem...a VERY rough idle.

I can get it to 55 mph in 5th gear on level land...but even the smallest hill it goes down to at least 35 mph going up it. It is also getting less than 10 mpg right now and going through oil like nothing you've ever seen! (having dad check my husband's oil change this weekend...I think he didn't put the filter on right...he's done it before! LOL)

The one thing that seems to have got it back running was the fuel pump, even though it was audibly and visually (by using a meter) working at the start of all of this.

I don't even pretend to try to be diagnosing your problem...but it is SO similar to what I have been experiencing, I wanted to share what we've done so far in case any of it may help you down the road.

sounds like you replaced everything but the body. i have replaced allmost everything you have listed, minus the pcv. does anyone know if the ecm can be tested? 140$ for the new one would hurt if it wasnt the problem.

i also checked the signal return wire, unplugged the ecm, that circuit seems to go out at pin 30 and comes back at pin 46. if i ground the black white wire at the shorting bar, then i can get the computer to give me codes, but since i had recently unplugged the ecm its just # 11. i left that alone and went back to where all the problems began, at the clutch switch. if i jump the 2 pink wires, the started will turn without the pedal being pressed. if i jump the white black wire to the green wire, the truck starts, runs fine. but as soon as i touch anything it dies, even the blinkers will kill it, or shifting it into gear. im sorry this is so long but this truck is my dd, and i already miss driving her.
