Hey ya'll,
I'm working on my 1996 ranger with a 2.3L distributor-less dual spark ignition and was wondering if the front or rear ignition pack was the primary?
Also, does anyone know of any common problems with the ignition for these? Was driving down the highway and it literally just died in 5[Uth[/U] gear. (already checked pump, fuel pressure and yes the fuel injectors are firing)

Thanks guys!

Sounds like a bad crankshaft position sensor, had one go out on my ranger years ago, just died while driving, no spark on either pack

check the timing belt. if the injectors are firing the crank sensor is fine

I believe the first coil is primary. It will run if only one is plugged in though( Ether one). Also check the fuel pump to see if it's priming when you cycle the key if it isn't check the fuse under the hood. I had a problem with my 93 that the fuse socket actually corroded. That's how I got the truck( as a no start/run).

for a little background info, the truck has ~36lbs fuel pressure. 38 at cranking. does not drop after cranking. cylinders 1&3 on left side of the motor are getting spark. (those are first two cylinders that fire).
will not run on starting fluid so i know fuel is not the problem. fuel filter was replaced, pump is kicking on leaving spark the issue since it wont run on brake clean.
im thinking timing but i did not wanna dig that far into it just yet

i did try putting it into limp mode by disconnecting MAF...still a no-go. checking timing belt later today

had someone crank the truck while looking at the timing belt. did not spin so hoping it just snapped and something didnt seize...starting to rip it all apart now.
thanks for all your help and suggestions guys!
