Heyy im new here but I need help. Im trying to smog my truck, a 1992 Ford Ranger xlt Single cab, it has a 2.3L dual spark plug engine and it runs GREAT. Not good, but it drives amazing. When I go up to my dads shop we connected the Obd1 reader and started running to tests to check the codes it would send back and it kept saying that my computer would respond to the reader. We checked the connections a dozen times and it seems my truck just wouldn't respond to anything. Someone said this means my ecu is bad. But wouldnt my truck not run?

Also, the only thing ive noticed wrong with my truck ( other then the HUGE dent in my door from this bitch on the freeway http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/smilies/annoyed.gif ) is sometimes ill go to start it and theres a big CLICK..... then my truck wont start it just clicks everytime I turn the ignition to start. I have to restart my truck ( by disconnecting the battery ) for 5 minutes then it starts just fine. If ANYONE can tell me whats up with my truck I would gladly buy you a beer :icon_cheers:

Thanks,
Jason

Cant help you with the ECU connection.. but i can tell you mine did the EXACT same thing tried to hook it into everything wouldnt connect to anything.. but ran excellent just that when it threw CELs you couldnt identify them..

As far as the click.. have you considered the starter motor? My little ranger did that to me.. thought the battery was dead so i called a buddy to come give me a boost.. then just for jokes before he got there i tried it again and it started just fine.. was fine for a few weeks then did it again.. thats when i decided to whack the starter motor and BAM worked everytime! until i rebuilt the starter of course
