I have a 93 2.3l with a stock bandaided exhaust 2" tail pipe. Im replacing cat back. With a turbo syle muffler. How mutch of a difference will it make if i up grade to 2.25" or 2.5". Is 2.5" to big. Later i might up grade my intake to match. Does any one have any numbers? How will it efect my mpg? Mpg is my number 1 concern. A little bit of extra power is nice too. This is my first 4cyl.

2" would be plenty however some like myself have run 2.5. Your not going to really get a decent sound out of it unless you convince yourself that it sounds good.

A flowmaster 40 sounds awesome at idle.. but thats about it. Way to "rappy" for alot of people.

I run a tube style cherry bomb. It's 18" long and is welded to a section of pipe after the cat. It's 2 in and 2 1/2 out (which is how I ended up running the 2.5 out since the muffler was readily available.)

I have mine dumped out the side just after the cab.

The sound? It's not bad really. Throatier than most. But they can drone at various rpms. Cruising isn't bad though. Becomes noticable to you and everyone else at 4g and above. I shift at 3000-3500 for normal driving so it doesn't bother me much.

If I were you, I'd go 2.25 on a 2.3. Thats what I ran, and it didn't seem like it lost any low-end torque. Then again mine was straight-piped, then y-piped into duals. Loud? not as bad as you would think. No in cab noise because the tips ran all the way out the back.

When i got the truck the exhaust was seperated in four different places. At the manifold at the cat flange and front and middle of muffler. Also held together and hung by perferated metal, coat hangers, speaker wire and 10ga solid copper wire with the coating still on where it didnt allready burn thru. Busted and drilled out the manifold studs. Cut off cat flange. Were i cut was allready at 2.25. I put it back to gether with spare 2.25 pieces, adaptors, and a muffler that were laying around. Then adapted back down to the 2.0 tail pipe. I didnt think it was that loud with just the cat hooked up. I am tone deaf. After i hooked the rest up i couldnt even here it with windows rolled up. Ive learned quite and low profile is good on your daily driver. 37 career points and a lost licence in between. Any way i got a fresh leek and im going to take it in and have done with new pipe. Dont got me wroung if i wasent between welders. A little polish pride, ill show you stuberness, and as many bush lites as it takes i would have it done tomarrow. Thanks for your time guys

Does any one have any hp, tq, or mpg numbers? Or know a place to look like a magazine, tv show exc? I know it wont be mutch but i would like to see a couple of mpgs.
