I put one a a n14 cummings, ran my electric bill sky high, but it was nice to fire up my truck and not freeze for the first hour waiting for that big diesel to warm up.
I would guess a small one for a little truck would be nice, what type are you thinking of, the water type, or the oil type ???
the little block heaters are not power hungry.
less than 200 watts i think. tank heater is more,
like 1000 watts. so a tank heater is about 10
cents to warm your truck up for an hour. less
per hour for overnight, as they have a thermostat.
a modern engine may not have a good place for
the hoses. the cold side has to be lower.
a block heater will not warm your engine enough
for instant heat. stick-on oil pan heaters vary
in power. they are rated. they can't be used
on a cast aluminum pan. they are great, tho.
if it is really cold, and you heat the carb more
than the engine, it will not start. all you can
do is let it cool and start over.
