OK, I have a 93 ranger w/2.3 and M5OD. I can drive the truck for about 20 miles no problem but then it starts running like s#!t. If I give it more than 1/3 throttle it bogs down and will eventually throw codes 121 and 122. I have changes the fuel pump and filter as well as the FPR, Mass Air Sensor, TPS, and have redone the ground terminal on the battery. WTF is going on here?? PLEASE HELP!! I love this truck but I'm on the virge of dumping it and finding something else.:bawling:

Welcome and pull up a seat someone should be able to hook you up. Have you gave it a complete tune up wires plugs PCV. Inspect all wires and connectors for corrosion cracking shorts same with vacuum lines if they are hard or cracked replace them. Prevantive maint first

Look for any bare wires by the exhaust it kinna sounds like when it gets up to temp and goes into closed loop a short occurs.

plugs and wires are less than a year old (8 months or so), I know that the codes are for TP circuit < minimum voltage. When I did a pinout test it was at the top edge of the maximum allowable, thats what I don't understand. I will definately need to check for bare wires by the O2 sensor, thats the one thing i have neglected to check. Any other info that could help would be greatly appreciated.

ok so i've tested the TPS again using the voltages supplied in the link(thanks earl43p), but no luck. everything checks out. I also checked all the wires i could find and nothing was shorted out. could it be possible that the O2 sensor could be clogged and causing an extreme AFR without throwing an O2 code?

You should probably test or inspect the catalytic converter. It seems like symptoms of a clogged one to me.

Doubtful

Same.

Unplug the TPS.

Unplug the computer.

Check for ground on all three wires to the TPS. Don't use a volt meter. Use a test light hooked to the positive terminal of the battery. Then turn the key to run and check for voltage on the same lines.

i did the line test as specified and it checks out ok, no voltage or ground. Next step is to remove the cat, since it has a crack in it about midways anyhow, this will give me the chance to replace it and get rid of an exhaust leak

Since the last time I posted, I haven't done anything to the truck other than drive it. I did the voltage test on the wires while I was at my job, and drove it home that morning. To my surprise, it ran good all the way home. I though I just got lucky. As it turns out, i've put almost 60 miles on the truck since then and it hasn't acted up yet!!! The only thing that I can figure is that there might have been a bad connection at the PCM as this is the only thing that is different than anything else I've tried in the past. Oh well, at least its running again!! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

after 2 weeks of running perfect, the same problem has raised its ugly head. I can't pin point what the f'in problem is.

I've now replaced the catalytic converter and it has more power on the bottom end but it still isn't right. I'm running out of ideas. The only thing I can think of is that the temp gauge doesn't read right. At normal operating temp it reads at the bottom of the normal mark. I remember when I got it, the gauge read between the "r" and the "m" of normal. Could this have anything to do with it?

double whammy!! It had a bad engine coolant temp sensor and a partially clogged fuel filter from where I didn't check inside the tank when i replaced the fuel pump and there was still trash in the tank! Damn, but it runs perfect now.

Very good of you to post your result!

Glad you got it figured out and fixed.
