i have a 91 ranger 2.3, has a noticable top end tick once it idles down after cold start. goes away 100% once you come off idle and are going down the road. new oil pump, pickup tube. 52 psi hot idle, 70psi hot 2k rpms, will reach ~90 under wot around 4k rpms. any ideas? engine was very clean when i had the pan off to do the oil pump and screen (melli g parts). 5w30 FL1A filter. doesn't missfire or anything, just ticks and clatters away at idle, goes away as soon as you press the gas

Could be a collapsing lash adjuster, it happens, I haven't looked how available they are anymore, they used to be cheap but then for a while all lifters and lash adjusters were unavailable a couple years ago... If they're still a couple bucks a piece it might be worth changing the whole lot of them...

well the truck only have 75k on it, runs like a top and no structural rust, so i need to fix it. it runs fine just sounds like crap. im gonna find a set and replace them
