I bought a 1988 Ranger that was originally a 2.3 truck. There was no engine in the truck when I bought it, and all of the wiring seems to have been removed before I owned the truck. I have located a couple wires that have been cut that I believe go to the inertia switch, but since the wiring has been removed, I have no idea where these go or how they should be wired in. I plan on running the low pressure fuel pump because the engine is carbureted. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Inertia switch is usually inside the cab. On the passenger side either on the firewall, or the kick panel.

If on the firewall I've usually seen them tucked behind the top edge of the carpet. Kind of the same behind the kick panel trim. Located where you can find and press the reset button with your finger.

I have no idea if the wires you are looking at are related to it.

IIRC the inertia switch is just wired inline with the positive side of the fuel pump. Power comes from the ECU or fuse box, through the inertia switch, and out to the pump.

The switch itself is on the firewall on the passenger side just under the carpet inside, but the two wires that go into it are these two wires. I’m just curious how I need to tie these back into the harness. I’ll try tying them into the fuse box and in line with the fuel pump and see how that fares.

Thank you for your help!

I'm pretty sure the power lead to the fuel pump goes through the switch
