I have planned out a 2.6L "BIG BLOCK" :icon_rofl:OHC using 2.5L crank and rods and 2.3L block bored .040 over. Well the plan seemed great ,even the machine shop said it was a good idea (seems this is an old pinto motor race cheat) but finding crank and rods is tough! If anyone has a line on some please let me know- now on to part II -if I can't build a cool stroker what would it take to put a junkyard 2.5 in my 1986 4x4 stick truck and have it work? most come with the computer but would the fuel delivery and spark plug and play? Now i can already hear the cries of "V-8" "4.0L" etc... well I 've used my engine swap coupon on a mustang I brought to work-I work at a big garage chain store and they said no more hot rod projects at work (we did a stroker '88 hatch/v8 s-10/and a v-8 wrangler!) but we can go 4cyl to 4cyl :yahoo: as long as the labor is close to the mitchell manual and we buy the parts through the store we can do it at work -So if you have ever done this swap/upgrade please chime in! :icon_welder:

Yo,
Just thinking outloud here, would it be easier to just bore out a 2.5? Rather than try and mix and match 2 engines. My guess would be that you just wont use some of the extra sensors.

what you want is a newer 2.3/2.5 block (small journal), stock 2.5 crank and rods, and .40 over 2.5 pistons. your '86 operating system probably wouldn't handle the extra airflow, and updating to a 2.5 setup would probably be "fun" unless you swapped in the dash and everything or did your research...

2.5 bore is same as 2.3 (3.78in) .I want the huge gain of 7mm more stroke.Even though I claimed 2.6L it is closer to 2.55.for all intents and purposes a 040 over 2.3 will be 2.35L and 200cc of displacement is for bragging rights only "NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!" as for block selection 89-94 2.3 has small journals and a distributor hole. see Im doin my reasearch! and BTW HURRY UP WITH THOSE GEARS!!! LOL do I need to come HELP! I can't wait I am so ready-we are lifting it this week (265/75R16)and I got a cool RANGER radio for my RANGER 4X4 too!

I'm having all sorts of friggin car trouble, fuel pump and coil went out on the explorer, power steering pump is down on the ranger, justy's engine exploded... and I just got out of the red from moving, things can finally start moving forward!

after I change the coil in the explorer in the morning I'm going to tear into my new axles and do what I can as I'm itching to go wheeling with my new setup too... once the explorer is DDable again the truck can be torn into. Believe me, it's been bugging the HECK out of me too, I've had my new axles for a year and a half... In a couple weeks I hope to have the rest of the parts for my swap together and start ripping into things

and honestly, if you are going to do little things just for coolness, stick DIS on that puppy... way less trouble prone than the TFI. I've got DIS on my '86 turbo engine but it was plug and play on mine (other than my tach still not working)

well i was thinking about doing the same thing but i hav an 87 2.0L ranger.i want to get a 87,88 2.3L block 2.5L crank n rod nslap ethere my 2.0L cab head or an 83,84 2.3L carb head on it.ive done alot of research n i think it well work great n get alot more power

I think you could put together "kits" like used crank and rods and .040 over pistons and sell it as a cool 4cyl upgrade-alot of folks want to but finding raw material is time consuming. Scott godspeed with your projects and 1st ranger please don't hesitate to PM or Email me as we are on the same track here and any way I can help let me know goodness knows I need HELP!!

yeah, carb would be less trouble if you can get a webber to match the flow needs and tune as necessary, EFI you would need to either go with a megasquirt or find something that would work stock, closest would be a stock 2.5 setup which would be interesting to fit into an '86...

Explorer is 90% better, get a CEL at idle and low speeds but runs good otherwise, even got the gas gage working! will take the pig in to work so I can use the impact to get the pinion nut off so I can get a new crush sleeve, scratching the itch, getting somewhere...
