I was wondering if this would be a cheaper way of making HP on a 2.3? I have been checking around for parts and mine would need a computer along with all the parts to upgrade, roller cams are pricey. I am not sure if I could use my block. I may not have a distributor hole. I thought about a engine swap 4.0 or a 5.0 but seems like it can get expensive, and you still have a used engine. I was thinking of finding an older 2.3 engine and just rebuilding it, would still have carb parts. I am wondering how bad it would be to wire up to a 94 wiring harness. I tried a bit of searching but nothing came up just for putting older motor in a newer truck. Any ideas on the best way to try this, or best place to find more info?

EFI and distributorless electronic ignition gives best performance and efficiency, also way way more reliable than carb and distributor setups.

Popular misconception about engine power is that adding more gas = more power, adding more gas = flooded engine.

Pretty much all power increases are done by adding more AIR, and if you add more air you can THEN add more gas without flooding the engine, and get more power.
Bigger engine adds more air
Bigger cam adds more air
Bored out adds more air
Stroked engine adds more air
Turbocharger adds more air
Supercharger adds more air

Bigger carb doesn't add more air

You can increase compression, which doesn't add more air but does give more power from available air.

But yes, you can simply remove the computer from the engine system and run the engine with a carb and distributor.
You would need 2.3l intake and carb and Duraspark system with vacuum advance distributor, then no computer is needed.
Wouldn't need most of the wiring harness.
Would need:
charging system
temp gauge wire
oil pressure wire
12volt key on power for spark
Manual choke or wiring for heated choke
