New to all this and don't know who to ask so maybe you guys can help. I have a 1994 ranger super cab with a 2.3. Its been running rough and has a loss in power. I found out this last weekend that the front coil has fire to one side and not the other so i changed out the computer and it is doing the same. Also don't know if this has anything to do with it but my tach didn't work good before but now don't work at all. Are these conected and if so how can i fix this?

The crank sensor does dual duty on these engines, providing spark control and injector timing from one sensor. The tach is driven by the T/Y wire out of the PCM, but that signal is driven by what the crank sensor delivers to the PCM.

If you send me your e-mail address, I will send you relevant Ford tech data to get you on the right path to fixing this.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, have similar problem

Having similar running issues, plugs and wires are new as is the air filter. Trying the fuel filter and fuel pressure check next.

Mr Earl4e3P could you please send me the Ford tech data you volunteered before? Thank you...

could be the ignition control module going out too. someone else had a problem with the tach and loss of spark turned out being the ICM. you can have it tested at most local parts houses for free. Also you can test the coil packs at home for free with a multi meter.

Ignition Control Module was the issue

Repaired the problem on my '94 2.3L that was running on two cylinders. The ICM had an intermittent fault. I had the original checked at the local parts store and it would fail the test every other time. We kept checking it until it was hot and it failed every time...
