Engine swap from my sweet running, rusted out Donor '93 Splash 2.3 liter with 140k....... into a Roadworthy '93 XL 2.3l. that blew a head gasket at 180k. Doing seals, timing belt, clutch, flywheel, ring gear and all that during the swap
When swapping clutch and transmission, I see the Donor 2.3 has a bad pilot bearing in the crank. There's a shell, but no needles . The junker engine from the XL had a complete needle bearing in its crank.

I tried some improvised pullers but couldn't get the remnant bearing shell out of the new engine. ANY HINTS?

I might further try if I can get the needle bearing out of the junker, but why? practice?

I could quick heat it with a torch to expand it then let it cool. Not worried about the rear seal...that's being replaced.

Pack the hole full of grease. Then tap a dowel that barely fits inside the bearing shell. The shell will come out as the dowel goes in.... Magic!
