Hello to all. I have been monitoring this site for a while to help diagnose a problem with my ride. I have to say this is a great resource with many people willing to share there knowledge, so I Thank You.

Well my vehicle 93 Ranger 2.3L 5 spd regular cab long bed. My problem was poor, very poor driveability. It would start (some time it would take several tries) idle rough and would back fire through intake on acceleration. Stall at intersection and would be hard to re-start. It got so bad I couldn't make it up my driveway. I checked the codes and once I got a fuel lean or pump open. I only got that once all the other time there was no codes stored. I would do both KOEO and KOER ( Key On Engine Off and Key On Engine Running test) I would clear codes by removing the jumper while test was running as suggested. (Removing battery cable to clear codes takes 15-30 min, removing jumper wire between test and sig return on test connector clears codes instantly, I was watching the CEL for code Flashes see Tech Library at top of forum for procedure on retrieving codes)

I cleaned the Map, Replaced Fuel filter. Rented Fuel pressure test kit from Autozone. Fuel pressure was 10psi KOEO and KOER. I had replaced the Fuel pump 4 months earlier so I didn't suspect it so I replaced the Fuel Pressure regulator still the same. I thought the Fuel pump couldn't be the problem as I heard they either work or they didn't I WAS WRONG. Replaced pump, 40 psi. truck has never run better. Just thought I'd share my adventure with all of you. Just rember you will dis-connect battery when removing pump, all KAM (Keep Alive Memory) will be lost, this is a good thing as the computer will have to learn sensor setting all over again clearing the bad stored settings. The vehicle may take several miles to re-learn.

Hope this will help others.

Sounds like what mine is doing. I'm checking the pressure tomorrow evening, but the symptoms sound very similar. I guess after 196,000 miles the stock pump may have seen better days.

Checking the Fuel pressure will save you from spending money unnecessarily. A lot of the parts stores will loan you a Fuel Pressure testing kit for a refundable deposit, usually on a credit card. In Michigan I went to Autozone. My vehicle runs better then it has in a long time.
