Doesn't have an ignition module.

Crank sensor would be my best guess.

a 1994 2.3 doesn't have an ignition control module. I did not know that. :icon_confused: I thought they had them until 98 when they incorporated it into the pcm.

Hi
A 94 ranger does have an ignition control module, it does not have a crank sensor. I know because my ignition module was bad and my truck would not start. It is located by the lower intake on the front side. crank sensors started in 95. My truck has a 94 motor in it.

so does it have a ignition module and where is it and where is the crank senser and does either have to do with the fire comeing out the coil? by the way it cranks fine and will stay running but when idleing it runs rough ,missing etc. but cant figure out why no fire on half the coil

If it is a 94 engine, you do not have a crank sensor. The controll module is on the lower intake manifold facing the front of the truck. It has a plug conector on the top and the bottom. If it is bad it can cause a no spark condition. I am not sure if they can be tested. I replaced mine over 7 years ago.

even though the truck cranks and runs fine besides the rough idle, missingetc. but i will change that next and see if anyone else has any sugg. please reply

if i do the self test for codes with a jump wire and test light will that tell me?

I am sticking with my original suggestion, check the ignition control module. you should be able to go to auto parts place and have them test it. some people have them tested a few times in case there is an erratic problem. make sure you put every screw back in when installing the ignition module. they act like grounds and the truck will not start if they are not put back in. I believe your truck has a crankshaft positioning sensor.( if it does not have a crankshaft positioning sensor how does the pcm set the timing) it might not have a camshaft positioning sensor. they started adding the camshaft sensor on 94's in CA and 95 everywhere else. what I dont know is if a bad crankshaft sensor creates a no spark situation. I have posted this question before and no one has answered yet.

definitely check for codes. make sure your cel light comes on koeo and check for codes even if there is no cel koer

It was the icm thanks for the info much appreciated and one more q what r the signs of a bad trottle position senser

glad you got it fixed. I dont know the answer to the tps question

Sorry about the ICM confusion, don't know where my mind was.

The TPS should be checked with a voltmeter.
Basically, you turn the key to Run (engine not running) find the signal wire by backprobing (leave the TPS connected). You'll find .96v is good for closed throttle and it should smoothly increase to ~5v at full open. That's from memory, so it might be off on the 5v high end.

For ModelAgeek, the Crank sensor on 93/94 has dual purpose, PIP and CID; meaning it controls spark and fuel injector timing. I can send you some EVTM info if you want. PM me your e-mail address, I'll overload your Inbox.
