I have a 2.0L that's shot, and am buying a 2.3L dual plug motor

1) Will it bolt up to my 5 spd trans off my 2.0L?

2) Will my intake from my 2.0L fit on that 2.3L?

3) My truck does not have power steering, this motor has a power steering pump what do I do?

Help and advice would be appreciated

1- yep

2- only if you swap the heads

3- either get a power steering box from another ranger or put the accessory setup from your old engine on the new one

1 - that's great

2 - how do I get an intake for that motor to hook up to a carb? It's an efi motor I want carb'd

3 - that I'll look into

2 - if I swap the heads will the motor still run right? and at this point i'd use my 2.0L ignition system?

correct, if you used the 2.0 head, the engine will run fine but the carb will need to be adjusted because of the larger displacement(mark88 will probably chime in, he did something similar) and you would need to put the ignition system from the 2.0 on the new engine, put a new timing belt on while you are there.

Chime~!

I replied to your other question in that thread about the carb. You can actually use the stock intake on a 2.3 head but there is a slight mismatch on the ports ( O ports on the 2.0 don't quite match with the D or oval ports on some of the heads)...

You will see the difference upon inspection of the intake ports. I used mine for a bit and it did work but it was not an easy carb to get to work right. When I swapped to the Offy type intake and the 5200 carb it was like night and day...huge difference...almost no vac lines (I now run only the distributor vac line)...

There is a problem with the emission testing though...it is not complete...I did get a conditional pass at one point but now I have to test again...if you have e-testing then you should contact the test center about requirements like working air pump et al...but yours is an 87 which is actually exempt in Canada...

So...you can either use the 2.0 carb and intake, try to find a working 5200 and intake, or consider going with the Holley 350/adaptor/86 FI intake...or you may be able to mod something...and my recommendation would depend on your current budget.

thanks for that information, but I have an UPDATE ! may be good. The 2.3L dual plug motor I'm buying comes with a harness and computer with it for $150 (155k on the motor and auto tranny, using my manual 5 spd)

I now need to know what all needs to be done to go from a carb'd truck to EFI?

a fair amount of work, you would need to change from a low pressure fuel system to a high pressure, which pretty much means changing the fuel tank or working out a prime pump then a high pressure pump and route a return line to the tank.

it would be doable but have it's headaches, I'll help where I can.

if you get the gas tank along with fuel lines from a fuel injected ranger it would help a lot, yes.

there won't be much of a way around wiring modifications in this kind of swap, but it should be relatively straight forward

Hypothetically, you should be able to just swap in all the parts, yes. However, much depends on the doner truck...if it's a gen I or II there shouldn't be any problems...gen III (93-97) the harness and connectors are different so it becomes much more complex and may involve swapping guages etc...

With an 8 plug head you are looking at a later model...late gen II or gen III...so if you could elaborate a bit about the year of the doner truck it might help...there may be sensors that you must install and have working with the wiring from the 8 plug engine...

Alright, the more info the better I'll try and answer any questions. 1993 mustang 8 plug comes with every thing is there harness, computer, air box, mas air meter sensors. I will be buying a fuel tank with a sending unit
and possibly an electric fan ( if I cant put the motor mounted one on )

the only issue I forsee is wiring related, everything will bolt in along with the fan, but there's wiring differences between carbed and FI, and I don't know how compatible everything will be.
