I'm starting a mount inside the front bumper that will be offset slightly (to avoid stock sheet metal) to hold a generic 2” receiver and a electrical quick disconnect. There will be no body lift.

Now the frame is C shaped and about has holes about 28” apart, before I go to the new&used metal yard what kind of inner bracket design should I be looking for?

I don't understand what you're asking. But I built mine without a front bumper, unfinished after a year and a half.

I'm trying to install a receiver (full sized winch, basket, tow point) and keep the stock bumper. Looking over the stickies, I see http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showpost.php?p=631536&postcount=268

and his rear receiver looks a lot like what I want to do, but I'm not welding on the truck.
So I am after a material/design shopping list.

Here's my custom made one. Bolts to the frame with the bumper mount bolts (you will need longer ones)

I love the d-rings but am not fond of hanging it under the frame, it is the approach angle penalty I'm trying to avoid.

This is the first mock up, I have some left over new steel from the last hitch I modified. I faked a reinforcement ring, drilled the pin hole, and cut it to length.

I'm still stuck on what I need to make the frame connection. What I am thinking is ¼'ish x 2'ish plate across, but make the center chunk and a bolt together deal.

My first attempt with a flat bar and bolt on receiver worked well but was way undersized considering how much abuse I put through.

So I took a rear hitch of jeep cherokee at the yard, cut it to length, inverted, and made a slider slug so I could put it between my frame and expand it to fit.

Not bad, feels a lot more rigid than the flat bar, more recessed, a bit harder to secure the pin
