Hey guys, trying to get a 1999 Ranger running again by replacing the engine (the old one is blown) the "new" engine is a 1996 and is the OHV version of the 4.0L V6, same as the motor that was in the truck originally. We have the '96 motor installed and running but it is not running right... seems to idle fine but when in gear it coughs, sputters and back fires. Any of you guys ever made the same/simillar swap?
A little background... we used the lower intake from '99 as well as the CAM position snsr cap. The sensor itself is the one that came with the '96, Once we had it all back together we took it for a test drive, coughing and sputtering. The diagnostic tool had a CAM position sensor error code. So, We figured maybe we put the sensor in 180* out. Making sure cyl 1 was at TDC we rotated the sensor 180* ... ran it again with pretty much the same results other than the CAM snsr error code did not trip on the diagnostic tool this time... the engine still ran like crap.
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated
