My 4.0 auto trans,1999 Ranger has developed a intermitent problem over the last few weeks.I had new coil, plugs, and wires installed 10 moths ago.I just put new plugs in yesterday.
Ok here is the problem.it does not happen everytime i use the truck.I am getting a stutter from the engine at low speeds and when stopped. It does not happen on highway driving or when going over 45mph.It has happened 3 times in the last month.Today it happened again.I left home ,hit the highway and pulled off the highway after 2 miles and stopped at the stop light. The speed limit in town was 35 so when the light turned green I brought the truck up to 35 and the stuttering began.I came to a red light and at the light the stuttering continued but the engine does not die.I turned around and hit the highway again. No stuttering and came back home where I parked my truck and left it running and no stuttering.
Unable to find a reason online why my truck is doing this I took it out for another drive after about a hour.I drove in town and on the highway.I drove it up hills and down hills.I drove it fast and drove it slow. This time no problems what so ever.So at this point I am stumped.I have no error codes and the truck always idles great when in park.Any ideas??????

you may consider investing in some obd2 scan tools, theres several cost effective ones that capture real time data, that may help pinpoint potential issues.

it may be a simple vacuum leak related to the evap system or simply a gascap leak to the ac pump cycling etc

I have a actron obd2 code reader. It shows no errors.
EDIT:Ok I serched online for the OBD2 scan tools and at this point can not afford them .Any other suggestions? Thanks.

OBD2 readers are not very expensive. The easiest ones you find on the internet are there to suck away your money.

As much as I hate to recommend walmart. chances are they will have one cheap.

I changed the fuel filter but today it happened again.I thought I had the problem solved...hmmmm.When it happened I was in a drive through and the engine started to sputter and after about a minuet it was back to running fine. When I pulled out of the drive through I had my code reader with me and though there was no cil on I hooked the reader up and did a scan and it came up with PO133 PD (O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response) .From what I read in the reader manual is that the reason it does not throw a CIL is that it has to happen X amount of times before it throws a CIL and clears itself after a certain amount of time. When I got home I checked the O2 sensor that the code was directed at and it had come loose from its mounting bracket. Not the 02 sensore itself but the electrical conector that clips to the motor bracket and the wires where laying on top of the exhast pipe.
Could this cause my problem?

Yep! That sure could cause your problem.
