i bought a 1999 2wd ranger with factory alum. wheels. front wheels wont fit on back. axle centering boss is to big. the wheels on the back have had the
hole "VERY BADLY HAND GROUND OUT TO FIT. what gives? has axle been
changed? 10 bolts in axle cover and no visible identification tag. tried a wheel
from my 1996 ranger and it wont fit back of 99 either.

Someone installed the wrong rims, period.

Proper ranger wheels are hub-centric, which means that the hole centers the wheel on the hub, NOT the wheel studs.

You could have a machine shop properly resize your existing wheels, but a replacement set from a junkyard or Craigslist would probably be cheaper.
