1999 Ranger SAS - Full Width D44 Coil Setup

What shaft did you use for your steering between the column & box?

What shaft did you use for your steering between the column & box?

mostly custom fabbed up.

cut the top connector off the stock setup for the connector to the steering wheel shaft. welding a small piece of D rod to that, to a steering u joint, then a piece of D rod down to another steering u joint.

then the connector to the gearbox was the stock connector for that gearbox, hacked off with a small piece of D rod welded on, that connected into that last steering u joint.

Great thanks for the response, I am still looking at different ideas for mine w/ how Ford used that funky shaped hallow tube.

i think i got everything from flamingriver.com (besides the 2 stock connectors)

so i really never expected this swap to be this easy.....

so i took a drill the yesterday and drilled a hole above the stock hole on the drivers side motor mount, ground out the metal between as others have described (only they stated drill below the hole, instead i needed to drill above the hole).

i created 2 - 1/4" plates to go between the motor mount on the truck and the motor mount on the motor. this seems to have leveled off the motor right to left really well.

so then put the c6 tranny on the block and stuff her inside. well, this setup, puts the c6 tranny mount within 1/2" of the stock tranny crossmember. now the bolts on the c6 tranny mount are spaced out further, but the tranny mount on the stock tranny bolts up perfectly to the c6, utilizing the same bolt holes on the stock transmission mount.

all i have to do is slot the stock holes back another half inch and the tranny will be bolted into place :-) the question will be how level everything will be once i have that done.....

Here are some pictures of the steering shaft setup...

Pictures from the motor mock up and tranny mock up...

These show the 1/4" plates to make it fit perfect.. :-) The holes are using stock holes, except the passenger side hole being slotted upward.

I did find out that when I was orignally mocking it up that I was invisioning the crossmember for the tranny in backwards... cant do that... so instead what i have done is started to build a 3x5" plate off the side of the stock crossmember with some gussets that'll hold the tranny.

Lot less work then building a full crossmember... :-)

Crossmember modification.

I'm back at it again with this project (still)! LOL

Picked up a set of motor mounts out of a 98 Ford Explorer 5.0L. By the way, most places sell just the motor mounts, not motor mounts and motor mount brackets.

YOU CANNOT buy the brackets from ford, as they have been classified obsolete. So you're only luck is the junk yards....

The past week was suppose to be working on this truck... but instead got sidetracked to fixing problems on the 95 Mustang GT I recently bought.... hope that can finish up quick so I can get back to this!

At this point really, it should be a matter of putting motor/tranny in, and leveling the motor. then run all the tubes, wires, etc for the motor... get ignition system, radiator, and a few more things (like a custom driveshaft) and she should be back to running finally.

I should probably not forget to mention that I need to pull the heads off the motor and get them tanked, since i know over the past 3 years that metal shavings have found their way onto the heads... :-(
