I have recently starting having problems with my truck when shifting to 4x4 hi or low using the dash switch. The transfer case is shifting but the hubs are not locking. I imagine I have a vacuum problem but have no idea on how to check this. I am thinking of engaging the hubs maually just to rule out a hub problem--any ideas on this--I have seen that other folks have problems with the pulse vacuum used on this truck to engage and disengage 4wd.... I have a shop manual but I need a vacuum line diagram so I can check the fittings and all to ensure the vacuum is working.

Thanks for your ideas.

I had actually seen those before, the full time 4wd is not an option--the manual engagement could be, that little switch is nice though--I would like to get it working correctly.

Good luck with that......it could be either o-ring in either hub, the vacuum lines, the vacuum solenoid, the GEM, or the associated wiring.

I just disconnected the vacuum line between the solenoid and the engine and lock the stock hubs manually.

Yeah that might be the best route, looks like a simple task to be able to do it manual. I guess you wouldn't even need to disconnect anything if you went that route. Just get out lock the hub--then you could switch it to 4wd when you needed it.

The silver area in the center of the cap is a mesh....some folks just take the mesh out and activate the hublocks when they need 4WD

i have messed with that time and time again, finally was able to get my hands on a set of avm manual locking hubs for about $150...worth their weight in gold in my opinion

I removed the plastic ends and am now able to lock the hubs when I want, if that starts getting screwy I will buy some avm hubs....

get the avm hublocks....bought mine bout a year ago from tellico4x4.com for $110 shipped.... apparently they are harder to come by now though??? try ebay maybe ive heard people found some on there....

they work every time :icon_thumby: and install in 10 minutes

What is involved in the install?

Thanks for the link--there is also a seller on ebay that has them for $99 with $9 shipping--Tellico charges $22 for shipping. If someone has installed these could they comment on the installation--is it simply removing the plastic junk and popping these in or is it a full hub replacement?

yes the plastic pops off with some jigsaw blades and the new ones push right on...see the tech library for the jigsaw blade trick..

I ordered some AVM hubs last week from off of ebay--got them within 2 days. Did the install in about 20 minutes without even taking the wheel off--jig saw blade tip really worked well. These have the name rugged ridge instead of avm--but they are made by avm.
