1999 Ford ranger transmission interchaneabillity

I have a 1999 ranger with a bad transmission, I've been looking for some on the internet, which years will work with mine

1999 Ranger Ex cab 4x4 offroad
4.0 L Engine
5R55E Automatic

1999 is the best bet. I think the electronics were the same in the '98-'00 5R55E's, but not for sure.

You can convert it to a manual for about $1,000 (about 1/2 what a transmission rebuild would cost).

It also has to be a transmission off another 4.0 4x4. Other engines have different bolt patterns, and you can't bolt a transfer case to a 2wd trans without basically rebuilding it.

What standard transmission is recamended for swaping, and how much stuff will have to be drilled, or welded? I intend to do as much work on this project myself as I can, And i did get the codes read, the mechanic told me that he thinks that the errors are in the 3rd gear clutch.
