If i get a 3 inch performance accessories lift, will there be rubbing with 33's. or any bumper modifications? thanks And it is on a 1999 ford ranger 2.5 liter 4 cylinder 2wd reg cab truck.:yahoo:

Why does everyone feel it's a good idea to put huge heavy tires and a lift on a 2wd 4 banger truck...

Don't do it, It will kill your MPG, your performance, and your ride quality.

If you want something for off-road, trade your truck in for a 4X4 ranger, or at least a torsion bar truck with a V-6.

yea, bad combo, stick with factory sized tires or close to or else your 2.5I4 will be angry

I get 24 mpg on the highway with my lifted 2wd Ranger. I go trail riding with it as well. I also have 2 Jeeps and a Suzuki Sammy that I take offroad when I want to go to Moab or any other really super ruff place. You don't only need a 4x4 to have fun in. Lifted 2wd trucks are fun as well.

Spindle lift installed in 2000 33x12.5 BFG KO tires.

I installed a PA BL in 2001. This is a current photo from late this summer.

You have a 4 liter.

I specifically said in my post

I say "torsion bar truck" in reference to Edges etc that come with a V-6 as standard IIRC.

Either way, lifting a 2wd 4 cyl truck with 33's is a loosing situation across the board.

stray cat, thats awesome. Now is that a 6 cylinder? and did you see any differences with the mpgs?

Those tires throw rocks. You need some flaps. :thefinger:

To the OP. Stick with stock size (or up to 29") and get more aggressive tread.

Straycats truck is the big V-6.

The V-6 is strong enough that he could feasibly see an INCREASE in highway MPG's since he has essentially made his final drive ratio wider.

The 4 cylinder does not have the torque for this in any sense of the word.

you could gear down to 4.88's... but... yeah... lol

Yes, the 4.0 motor. My last Toyota truck was a 94 4x4 with a 4 cyl and it ran on 35's and had 5:88 gears. It had plenty of power to go anyplace. Highway driving was great and smooth riding as well. I know a lot of people with 4 cyl Rangers and newer Toyota 4 cyl trucks and they run 32's or 33's and love their trucks and they love their trucks. It is the gearing that does make a difference as well.

the 22R-E's are some of the best motors ever built IMO, and can handle the extended high RPM's of Highway duty with a big gear and big tires without a sweat.

the pre-Duratech 2.3 and 2.5 "Pinto" 4 bangers in our rangers are VERY raucous in the higher RPM's, it would be a dismal drive, and net poor MPG, I can promise that much.

The Duratech rangers are much better about bigger tires because they are MUCH more refined, and more 'free reving' than the old pinto motors.

tis be the truth..
i was driving a friends while gone for 2 weeks. 92 ext cab 5 speed 22re on 285/75r16s and stock 4.10 axles... got 21 mpgs in town and about 26 on the interstate... and wasn't v8 power, but it was enough.

There is a guy on these boards that has a 98-00 2.5 Ranger with a 5 speed and OEM rear gear and 31's or 32's that can no longer use his 5th gear basically.... Let alone 33's

I believe that will work. 31" tires is about as big you can go stock lift. So with a 3" lift, 33" tires should fit. Also, rear gearing the axle should be considered, possibly a 4.56 ratio or higher.

The same reason someone would put a 5.0 in a ranger. With your logic, if you want something fast, buy a mustang, right? I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that unless you get on the throttle, you will not use that 5.0 for all it's worth. If you do use the 5.0 for all it's worth then you will get way worse gas mileage than someone with a lifted 4cyl and 33s... :)

Don't get me wrong, I would love to swap in a 5.0, I think it would be f-ing awesome! :) I'm just saying there is nothing wrong with trading off a some mpgs and performance to have something that makes you happy, just as having a 5.0 is cool as hell but the trade off is you do not get the mileage you would get with a 4 banger...

I personally don't have 33s, but my body lifted 95 2.3 with 31s and 4.56s does just fine power wise and ride quality wise for a 4cyl that's lifted...
