So I have been reading through a few post and thought I had licked the problem of my misfireing Ranger. getting code for cylinder # 2 not firing. CEL starts blinking. It is a California emissions truck, replaced cat with magna flow brand because the old one cracked in half. Replaced both O2 sensors, new plugs and wires and 2 new coil packs. Runs exactly the same. What else is in the loop to cause a misfire on #2 Cylinder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I work on motorcycles so I am pretty mechanically enclined but this problem seems to never end.:bawling::bawling:

bad fuel injector.

Or a bad injector driver circuit.

Also, and this is big but gets over looked a lot:

In Fords, particularly the Cali emissions ones, if a severe miss is detected the computer will shut down the associated injector to save the cats. It won't start firing the injector again until the codes are cleared to tell it that a repair has been made.

I would start by hooking up a noid light to the the injector connector. If the light flashes with the engine running, your injector is shot. If the light doesn't flash, get the codes cleared somewhere and try again.
