A very common problem on many newer ford vehicles is the brake switch attached to the pedal arm under the dash. its an easy and cheap part to replace. You can test it with a simple ohm meter, remove it, place meter leads across the two terminals, check to see if it closes the circuit. If not, time to replace. Another less safe test that doesn't involve removal is to set the cruise control and try to disengage using the brakes. KEEP YOUR HAND ON THE OFF BUTTON. if the cruise light doesn't go off, it then too could be the switch.
