1998 Ranger SAS Project

On page 4 of this thread....you will see a picture of the outside frame with the piece of flatbar and bolt going above the frame to the plate that attaches the gearbox....You'll also see the high pressure line for the steering.

Springs from a 93-97 are the same as 98+ IIRC.

Thanks for this - I went ahead and purchased a couple of Add-A-Leafs from the 97....a little modifications but nothing too drastic.....worked great....gave me about 2 1/2" lift in rear.

Thanks to the above chris_brown09 for that part number.......I got the drive shaft in...works great! Here is the info and cost on that:

Adapter #N2-83-288X ----- $114.00

Front Drive Shaft from 88 Jeep Cherokee - - ---- $40

Machine Shop to cut drive shaft down 2 3/4" - - - ---- $60

All put together and working fine....all I need now are the 33's all the way around. I'll take a few pics and post them shortly.

Oh - forgot to mention - with this type of front drive setup, I did not have to cut anything on the cross member for the tranny in order for it to fit....everything just bolted right up.

So far so good.......everything is working well

I just read this entire thread and love it. Your doing eveything I'm going to be doing except I'm going to be using leafs.

So from what I'm reading I need to get the linkage from a Cherokee, my D30 didn't have it, and use the steering box from a 95 Ranger. I dont know if my 83 box is the same as a 95 I'll look that up.

As for my front drive shaft I'll figure that out or come back to this thread and look at what you did.

Please get pictures of the steering box set-up soon just in case I have to do it to mine.

Thx

Glad it turned out and works good for you.

If I get the rest of my projects out of the way, I might get to finish my D30 before the snow flies...

if you so decide will the jeep44 be a bolt in upgrade

What size tires are you running?

this is an interesting take on an SAS, not extreme, still plenty streetable, nice!

So, any thing to update this with? The first gen BII/Ranger use the same steering box as the up to 97 Ranger, so no worries there. This also lead one to think that the TRE would be the same, too.
