My ranger has been having some issues lately. During heavy braking it will stall but it seems to only do it when my truck has under a quarter of a tank. Also my truck is fouling out spark plugs really fast, sometimes in only about 500 miles. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum

You could have leaking hose in gas tank, when it is exposed to air, air is sucked in and engine starts to stall, so fuel level related.

What do the old spark plug tips look like?

How many miles on the vehicle?
O2 sensors last 100-125k miles, as they get older engine will run Rich

Do all the spark plugs foul or just specific cylinders?

The 4.0l OHV does "eat" spark plugs, but thats a bit fast, lol
Motorcraft seem to last the longest, then Autolite
They do use a large gap so make sure to set it at .054

Does it foul all spark plugs or one in particular? I know my 4.0 fouled one spark plug every few thousand miles, ended up being a cracked head (coolant fouling).

If it’s all I’d change the o2 sensors, clean the MAF change the air filter and do new wires. Make sure you are using at least double platinums. These have a high voltage ignition system and good old coppers will get burnt up quick. Also the engine could be carboned to hell, so maybe do a seafoam treatment to it-I use the motor craft equivalent I forget the part number but the stuff works better than seafoam to me, and is cheaper. Check the FPR vac line for wet gas, this is unlikely since your truck runs okay when the plugs aren’t fouled, and you make no mention of hard restarts.

Let us know how that works
