Quick questions if any knows the answer to. I have a 1998 Ranger 4x4 4.0 V6 automatic transmission. The transmission appears to be toast, we called around to a few salvage yards and they are telling us that for this particular Ranger the transmission MUST BE YEAR SPECIFIC. Does anyone know this to be true? I don't understand why it must be a 1998 transmission. Any quesses?

Thanks in advance!!

re year specific

Thats funny, I need a 95 r55e and was told by a shop here in Grand Junction that 1995 was year specific but that from 96 and later they were all the same. I am wondering now if they are trying to sell everyone a transmission for more money based on being year specific. I have posted a similar question as yours here in the hopes someone has experience in this matter. I sill dont see the difference if they are all running a 4r55e with the X 4.0, i would think eve the ECMs are the same. Good luck.
