i have a 1998 ranger 4x4 3.0 auto. the motor recently locked up, and i would like to put in a 4.0. i have a 1993 explorer 5speed 4.0 with a bad motor, i was going to use the tranny and transfercase and get a 4.0 to put in the ranger. im trying to do so in a decent price range.

i need to know if i should get a 4.0 from the 98+ or if i should get a 4.0 from the 93 body style. will it all match up, and what all will i need, etc..any info would be helpful.
thanks

You'll need to get a 4.0 from a 98' up. A 95-97 may work, but need a little adapting.
